THE company behind plans for 200 homes on the old golf course at Gretna has welcomed the unanimous decision by Councillors to grant detailed planning approval for the project and said it hopes to begin construction in early 2022.
Alba Developments will transform the 28.5-acre site into 200 homes located close to Gretna Primary School, as well as local shops, cafes and restaurants. As part of plans, local roads will be improved along with upgrades to the drainage to reduce existing flooding risk, while the company will also make a contribution to education for the expansion of the local primary school and for the local water reservoir upgraded.
20 percent of the development will provide much-needed 2 to 4-bed affordable homes surrounded by local amenities and public transport network.
The plans were approved by the Planning Committee of Dumfries & Galloway Council.
The development will revitalise the currently redundant site that has been earmarked for residential housing in the Local Development Plan since 2014 and build a sustainable new neighbourhood with a mix of 2 to 3 bed bungalows and terraces and 3 to 4 bed family homes as well as elements of open space, playground facilities and the provision of a new cycleway and footpath connections through the new neighbourhood and the surrounding footbath network.
