A SCOTTISH accountancy firm has expanded with the acquisition of two Moray-based finance firms.
Goldwells, which now has eight offices across north and north-east Scotland has opened its first premises in Elgin, with local tax specialist Ewan Edwards at the helm.
Goldwells has acquired Moray Tax Specialists and Chris Banks Bookkeeping after being acquainted with Edwards and Banks over a number of years.
Ewan Edwards will lead up the Elgin team which is based at Wards House, Wards Road in Elgin, while Chris Banks will shortly retire.
The firm said Ewan Edwards has a strong reputation as a specialist in tax, having worked at HMRC for more than 35 years.
As a senior leader within HMRC, he led multi discipline tax investigations across a huge variety of businesses within the UK’s Small and Medium Enterprises sector.
After working in HMRC’s Large Business Unit for seven years, he was seconded to their policy division before returning to the SME sector and working in his preferred owner managed business environment.
Along with his wife Moira, Ewan Edwards has led Moray Tax Specialists for more than three years, and Goldwells said he had built up an impressive varied client base in a relatively short space of time.
Edwards said he is looking forward to working with the accountancy experts at Goldwells to provide a complete business and personal finance package to the people of Elgin and beyond.
Ewan Edwards said: “Having known Gary Addison and Goldwells for a number of years, I am delighted to be joining the Goldwells team to be able to expand our service offering to clients in Moray and the Highlands.
“We have a loyal and active client-base and I am sure the increased service offering will be of interest to our accountancy and tax clients.
“It has been a busy time for accountancy firms and tax specialists who have been helping clients with the Government’s coronavirus business support schemes, and now as businesses look to take workers off furlough, we are able to offer advice to ensure businesses move forward in a positive and healthy financial position.”
Goldwells managing director Gary Addison, said: “We have wanted to expand in Moray and Elgin in particular for a while now and so I am delighted to join with Ewan and Chris to bring a full financial service to the people and businesses in the area.
“Moray is an exciting and vibrant place with a variety of industries and companies large and small.
“I am particularly pleased to have Ewan on the team as his expertise in complex tax issues and investigation work in particular is impressive.”
Goldwells has offices in Buckie, Elgin, Grantown-on-Spey, Inverness, Kingussie, Nairn, Peterhead, and Tain.
