As frustration mounts over the delayed A96 dualling project, new figures reveal that the cost of the Scottish Government‘s long-overdue review has increased by nearly £1 million since December, bringing the total to almost £6 million.

Gordon and Buchan MP Harriet Cross, who is writing to the Scottish Government calling for the findings of the review to be released, said: “It’s outrageous that taxpayers are having to foot the enormous bill for this needless review which should have been published almost two years ago.

“The North East is still paying the price for the mess left by the SNP’s coalition of chaos with the Greens.

“Endless sums of money are being thrown at trying to justify this appalling U-turn at a time when lives are tragically being lost and families are being torn apart by the dangers of this road.

“The A96 continues to be neglected by the SNP government, risking the safety of motorists, hampering our emergency services and putting off potential investors in our economy.

“More than a decade since the SNP made the dualling promise, communities across the North East are still in the dark on if this vital upgrade will ever happen.

“Instead of throwing huge amounts of money to this review, the SNP government should concentrate more on investing in improvements like dualling the A96 in full.”
