Stop No. 70 on UK Warehousing Association CEO Clare Bottle’s Around the Warehouses in 80 Visits tour was Bullet Express on the site that used to be part of Scotland’s critical defence heritage, since transformed into a fully operational warehouse.

The visit was part of 2024 The Year of Warehousing which aims to put this economically significant sector in the spotlight on the 80th anniversary of the Association.

Bullet Express took on the Renfrew site where once submarines were refurbished and the 30-tonne overhead cranes remain in situ, during the pandemic.

In this setting, the UKWA chief was invited to officially cut the ribbon on the warehouse that has recently secured bonded status.

After a tour of the facilities, Clare gave a short presentation about UKWA’s mission in the company of other speakers from Scottish Engineering, The Glasgow Freight Club and Erskine Veterans Charity which like UKWA is marking a significant 80th milestone, namely 80 years since D-Day.

Clare Bottle commented: “I was very impressed with how the dormant site had had its history preserved while being transformed into a racked-out warehouse with 12,500 pallets stored here.

“I wanted to say thank you to UKWA board member David McCutcheon for all his ongoing support, and to John McKail, Martin Craghill & Wesley Riggins for such a warm welcome.”

Martin Craghill, Commercial Director added: “We were all thrilled to announce the official opening of Bullet Express Excise Bond facility at Westway Park in Renfrew to serve the drinks sector.

“It was an honour to be part of Clare’s tour celebrating the 80th Anniversary of UKWA. When Clare officially cut the ribbon it marked a key moment in Bullet Express’s continued expansion.

“We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our esteemed guest speakers: Major Mike Edwards OBE DL, Craig Fyffe, Secretary of The Glasgow Freight Club, John Campbell of Scottish Engineering and Erskine Veterans Charity for their time and inspiring words.

“This event represents an exciting chapter for Bullet Express, and we are grateful to everyone who made it such a memorable day.”
