Brodies LLP, Scotland’s largest law firm, has appointed Elaine McIlroy as partner in employment and immigration.

Elaine is an experienced employment and immigration lawyer, regularly called upon by clients across the UK as well as international law firms, to support their UK wide employment and immigration law needs. With more than 17 years’ experience, Elaine joins Brodies from Weightmans LLP, a top 50 national law firm, where she led its UK immigration team and Scottish employment practice.

Brodies advises its clients on employment law matters ranging from litigation, business change and consulting, to operational HR support, independent investigations, contract and policy development, training, employee relations and international support. In its strategic plans, the firm outlined the need for dedicated immigration expertise due to the ongoing demand from employers to advise EU nationals on the settled worker scheme, and on wider Brexit implications, as a new immigration regime continues to develop.

Head of employment at Brodies, Tony Hadden, said: “Elaine is a well-known employment and immigration lawyer with a great reputation in the UK market. Our clients will benefit from her knowledge and experience both in employment law and in the area of immigration, which as the Brexit process continues, is a key issue for employers.”

Solicitor, Erin McLafferty, has also joined Brodies from Weightmans LLP and will work alongside Elaine and the wider employment and immigration specialists, which now number 25 across Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The firm’s presence in the Highlands also continues to grow with the appointment of associate Adam Brooks. Adam will be based in the Dingwall office and provide support to oil and gas clients, with a focus on upstream activity and the service sector.

Brodies’ managing partner, Nick Scott, adds: “Our clients value our ability to see their legal challenges from many perspectives. As a result of listening to our clients, and in response to the strategic plans we set ourselves, today we add considerable expertise as we welcome Elaine, Erin and Adam to our firm.”

This latest announcement follows another successful year of growth for Brodies, with the firm achieving record turnover and its headcount exceeding 700 for the first time.
