The Whisky Aficionados’ Network, a distinctive monthly gathering for professionals with a penchant for premium spirits, reached new heights last night, 24 October, with its most impressive networking event to date at the Barclays campus in Glasgow’s Tradeston district.

From humble beginnings a decade ago with a small group of regulars, this exclusive club has flourished, now regularly hosting up to 35 attendees at its home base in 168 Bath Street, the headquarters of Wbg, a leading Scottish independent full-service accountancy firm.

Last night’s event saw an unprecedented turnout of 70 participants, who came together to savor exceptional whiskies while engaging in casual networking with fellow professionals from various business sectors.

Event Highlights

The evening’s proceedings were led by Dougal Barr, Global Brand Ambassador for Douglas Laing, a third-generation family-owned Scotch whisky business.

As is customary for these gatherings, the host represented a prominent entity in the whisky industry, be it a distiller, blender, or whisky society.

Tasting Experience

Attendees were treated to the club’s signature six-dram tasting session, allowing them to explore a range of exceptional whiskies while fostering connections with like-minded individuals.

The Whisky Aficionados’ Network continues to prove that business networking can be both productive and pleasurable, offering a unique platform where professionals can expand their connections while indulging in Scotland’s national spirit.

Scott Grant, business development director at Wbg, said: “Like Wbg, 168 Whisky Club relishes its role of championing smaller, independent enterprises with ambition to scale their operations.

“The Club allows us to shine a light on our hosts’ unique whisky offerings while affording an opportunity for guests to discuss pressing business issues of the day among a congenial business and professional audience at an informal and mutually-beneficial networking event.”

The professional transactional network allows Wbg to showcase its comprehensive range of specialist accountancy, audit and tax advice to the whisky sector.

Attendees at last night’s event included representatives from Wbg’s corporate finance team from Aberdeen, investment firm N4 Partners alongside Wbg and Barclays partners and clients.
